ADOPT A CAT & Save a Life
The SPCA of N. Brevard, as a No-Kill organization, is trying hard to move animals, especially cats, out of shelters that aren't No-Kill and to get them adopted into Forever Homes. Tell your friends & family and come down to adopt an adorable fur-ball who will love you unconditionally & relax you with purrs.
Concerning Animal Shelters
BEWARE - Not all Shelters are "No-Kill" Shelters. This means if a pet/animal is brought to their shelter and is not adopted out in a very timely manner, the animal WILL be Euthanized (Killed). Therefore, ALWAYS ask if the shelter you are considering is a "No-Kill" shelter BEFORE you bring in your pet/animal.
ALSO - Many shelters who refer to themselves as "No-Kill" actually mean that they don't euthanize (kill) any animal that is healthy and adoptable. If the animal is sick, injured or considered un-adoptable - they send the animal to another facility to be euthanized (killed). Make sure you ask the shelter what their policy really is concerning "No-Kill."
NOTE - Many "No-Kill" shelters have a quota and may not have space available at the time you call. Ask them if they can wait-list you for your pet's admission. It's important that you plan ahead in order to avoid having to place your pet in a shelter that euthanizes (kills) un-adoptable animals.
To find a No-Kill Animal Shelter near you, please go to this site:

For Dogs in Particular
Looking to adopt a particular breed of dog? One excellent place to start is on PetFinder at www.PetFinder.org (you can input your breed and see what comes up).
Also, go to "Google" and do a search for a rescue organization that is breed specific. They will adopt out to an approved person/family. For example: put in "Boxer Rescue" and lots of sites will come up.

Dr. Donna Craig, D.V.M. of Outback Mobile Veterinary Services will provide veterinary care to dogs and cats in the comfort of their own home. This service is especially valuable and convenient if you have multiple pets, if you have an elderly or sick pet who would be overly stressed being brought to a vets office or if you find you need to euthanize your pet and wish to have it done in the familiar and comfortable surroundings of your pets home.
You can find out more by going to: www.outbackmobilevet.com or by calling: 321-848-1338. (NOTE: Faster response if you e-mail her)
CONCERNING WILDLIFE
We have lots of wildlife in Florida, especially in our protected areas. What do you do if you come across an injured animal? What do you do if you find a baby bird who has fallen out of his/her nest?
Call the organizations below for assistance. They will advise how to transport the animal or help you if you are not able to bring the animal in yourself (e.g., what if it's a alligator?).
If you are able, take the animal/bird, etc., to:
